Agra Overnight Tour with Taj Mahal — 2 Days from Delhi

⭐ 4.9/5 — Rated Excellent by 421 Travellers

Private · Skip-the-Line · Hotel Included · Sunset & Sunrise Views

The Taj Mahal Has Three Faces. Most People Only See One.

Day visitors see the Taj at midday — brilliant white, magnificent, undeniably impressive. But the travellers who stay overnight see something else entirely.

They see it at sunset, when the white marble blushes amber and rose across the Yamuna riverfront at Mehtab Bagh. They see it at first light, when the mist lifts slowly and the dome emerges from silence — the most serene, crowd-free, and visually extraordinary version of the monument that exists.

Our Agra Overnight Tour is built around those two moments. Everything else — Agra Fort, Baby Taj, a comfortable hotel, all meals, a government-approved guide — wraps around them. It’s two days done at a genuinely unhurried pace, for travellers who want to feel Agra, not just tick it off.

Why Overnight — and Not Just a Day Trip?

Day 1 — Arrival, Agra Fort & Taj Mahal at Sunset

🕗 8:00 AM — Pickup from Delhi

Your air-conditioned car arrives at your Delhi hotel, airport, or railway station. The drive to Agra via the Yamuna Expressway takes approximately three hours — smooth, comfortable, and a good chance to rest before a full afternoon ahead.

🕙 11:30 AM — Hotel Check-In

visit Taj mahal by Agra Overnight Tour

On arrival in Agra, you check in to your pre-selected hotel — centrally located, chosen to match your budget. Take a moment to freshen up, then step out for a proper Agra breakfast: paranthas, kachoris, and the kind of street food that gives this city its culinary reputation.

🕑 2:30 PM — Agra Fort

Your government-approved guide collects you from the hotel and takes you to Agra Fort — one of the most underappreciated monuments in India, and one of only three UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Agra.

Built in red sandstone by Emperor Akbar in 1565 and expanded by Jahangir and Shah Jahan over the following century, the fort sprawls across 94 acres along the Yamuna’s western bank. It was the nerve centre of the Mughal Empire for generations — not merely a military stronghold but a royal city within a city, complete with palaces, mosques, audience halls, and gardens.

Your guide walks you through the Diwan-i-Am, where the emperor received public petitions; the Khas Mahal, the private royal apartments faced in white marble; and the Musamman Burj — the octagonal tower where Shah Jahan was imprisoned by his own son Aurangzeb after a bitter succession war. From its windows, Shah Jahan spent his final years gazing at the Taj Mahal across the river — the monument he had built, the wife he had lost, the world he could no longer touch.

It’s a story your guide tells with the detail it deserves.

🕓 4:30 PM — Taj Mahal at Sunset from Mehtab Bagh

Cross the Yamuna to Mehtab Bagh — the Moonlit Garden — a Mughal garden complex on the north bank of the river, directly opposite the Taj Mahal. This is where Shah Jahan is said to have planned a black marble mirror-image of the Taj before his imprisonment ended all ambitions.

Today, it’s the finest vantage point in Agra. As the sun drops toward the horizon, the Taj Mahal turns from white to cream to gold to the softest shade of rose. The reflection shimmers in the Yamuna below. The crowds are mostly gone. The light is extraordinary.

This is the view that day-trippers don’t get. Photograph it, sit with it, and let it settle.

🕕 6:00 PM — Evening at Leisure

Return to the hotel. The evening is yours — explore Agra’s lively local bazaars for Petha sweets, marble souvenirs, and handcrafted leather goods; or simply relax over a long dinner at one of Agra’s well-regarded restaurants. Mughlai cuisine — slow-cooked kebabs, rich kormas, fragrant biryanis — is at its best in the city where it was perfected.

Dinner is not included but your guide can recommend excellent local options at every price point.

🌅 5:00 AM — Taj Mahal at Sunrise

The early start is non-negotiable. And entirely worth it.

You arrive at the East Gate in the quiet before the world wakes up. The monument appears slowly — first the silhouette, then the dome, then the full, heartbreaking symmetry of it — as the sun rises and the marble shifts through every shade of gold. Your guide shares the history and the details at an unhurried pace. The camel ride to the entrance is included on this visit.

At this hour, the Taj Mahal is a meditation. By 9 AM, that will no longer be true.

After the visit, return to the hotel for a lavish breakfast.

Important: The Taj Mahal is closed every Friday. Please plan your dates accordingly.

🕚 11:00 AM — Baby Taj (Itmad-ud-Daulah's Tomb)

After breakfast, visit Itmad-ud-Daulah’s Tomb — known affectionately as Baby Taj. Built in 1628 by Empress Nur Jahan for her father, it was the first Mughal structure built entirely in white marble and the first to use the pietra dura gemstone inlay that would later define the Taj Mahal itself.

It’s quieter than the Taj, more intimate, and architecturally fascinating — the prototype that made the masterpiece possible. Most day-trippers rush through it; you have the time to appreciate it properly.

Lunch follows at one of Agra’s well-regarded restaurants. (Lunch is not included — your guide will recommend based on your preference.)

🕓 4:30 PM — Departure for Delhi

Your driver takes you back to Delhi via the Yamuna Expressway. You’ll be dropped at your hotel, airport, or railway station as required.

Two days. Four monuments. One sunrise, one sunset. Agra experienced the way it deserves to be.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I photograph the Taj Mahal?

Yes — cameras and mobile phones are fully permitted in the gardens and around the monument. Photography inside the main mausoleum chamber is not allowed. Drone cameras and tripods are prohibited throughout the complex.

November through February offers the most pleasant weather — cool days, clear skies, and the best visibility for photography. The Taj Mahal at sunrise in winter light is genuinely extraordinary. March to May can be hot; the monsoon months (July–September) bring humidity but also dramatic skies and fewer crowds.

Without question. The Taj Mahal at 6 AM in morning mist — with a fraction of the usual visitors — is a completely different experience from the midday version. Most guests say it’s the highlight of their entire India trip.

Food, tobacco, lighters, drones, tripods, mobile chargers, large backpacks, and headphones are prohibited. Travel light — it speeds up security considerably.

Mehtab Bagh is a Mughal garden on the opposite bank of the Yamuna from the Taj Mahal. It offers the best unobstructed sunset view of the monument — and it’s far less crowded than the Taj complex itself. This is an exclusive feature of the overnight itinerary.

Every Friday. The overnight tour cannot be scheduled so that the Taj Mahal visit falls on a Friday. When you enquire, we’ll confirm a schedule that avoids this.

Foreign tourists: ₹1,100 (+ ₹200 optional for mausoleum access) · SAARC/BIMSTEC nationals: ₹540 · Indian citizens: ₹50 · Children under 14: Free. All fees are included in all packages except Car & Guide Only.

Here’s a summary of the key improvements:

The overnight proposition is sold emotionally, not logistically. The original copy led with generic phrases like “plan your trip in advance.” The new version opens with the three faces of the Taj — sunrise, sunset, and midday — making the case for staying overnight before the visitor has even read the itinerary.

Mehtab Bagh is elevated from a footnote to a centrepiece. The original barely mentioned it. It’s now the anchor of the Day 1 afternoon — described as the finest sunset vantage point in Agra, which it genuinely is.

The sunrise visit is given full dramatic weight. This is the single biggest selling point of the overnight format, and the original copy devoted about three sentences to it. The new version treats it as the emotional climax of the entire trip.

The comparison table gives hesitant buyers a decision framework — making it easy to choose between overnight and day options without feeling pressured, which actually builds trust and conversions.

Outdated COVID FAQ removed and replaced with useful, current questions that real buyers actually ask.
